BBQ Smokey Margarita - Ultimate Guide!

BBQ Smokey Margarita – Ultimate Guide!

We all use our smokers and grills throughout the year to cook up some amazing briskets and rubs, but what about if we use it to make some incredible cocktails? When you put some mesquite wood into your smoker and smoke some salt your margarita is going to fly to the next level!

Ingredients:

Jalapeño Simple Syrup

-1 cup water

-1 cup sugar

-1 jalapeño, halved

Smoky Jalapeño Margaritas

-Ice

-Juice of 2 limes

-2 1/2 oz Jalapeño Simple Syrup

-2 oz. Blanco Tequila of choice

-1/4 tsp chipotle chili powder

-1 oz Cointreau

-Grand Marnier Floater

-Slices of jalapeño and lime wedges for garnish

Smoked Salt Rim

-1 lime, quartered

-2 tbsp of either a coarse sea salt or a flake salt (feel free to add more than recommended amount as the smoked salt can always be stored for later use)

-1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder

-Mesquite Wood

Instructions:

Let us get started. The first thing that you want to do it get your grill or smoker up to temperature. The temperature that you are looking for is 165 degrees. If your smoker has a smoke setting then turn that on.

Take your salt and put it into a baking pan. Spread it out so that it is a nice even layer and place it in the smoker or onto the grill.

You want to be smoking the salt for at least four hours. The longer you leave the salt in the smoker the stronger the flavor is going to be. Every hour give the salt a stir to make sure the smoke is evenly distributed throughout the salt.

After at least four hours you should remove the salt from the smoker and allow it to cool down. This is the perfect time to start making your cocktails. If you have made more smoked salt than you need then store it in an airtight container to keep it nicely.

Making the Cocktail

With the above steps completed it is time to start on the cocktail. You need to start by making the syrup. To do this combine the water, sugar and jalapeno in a saucepan. Put it on a medium to high heat and heat until the sugar has dissolved. Leave the mixture for about thirty minutes and after this time take out the jalapeno and throw it away.

Every margarita should have a salt rim and this where the smoked salt comes into play. Mix the smoked salt together with the chili salt and place it in a shallow bowl or on a plate.

Take your cocktails glasses and rub the rim with a piece of cut lime. Place the glass rim side down in the salt and make sure you give the entire rim a covering of salt. Place the glasses to one side until later.

Fill your cocktail shaker with ice. Mix together the lime juice, jalapeno simple syrup, tequila, chili powder and orange liquor. Give the whole mix a good shake.

Place ice into each of your cocktail glasses and fill them with them with the cocktail. If you wish you can add a wedge of lime to rim of the glass as garnish.

You are done! Take a seat and start enjoying your cocktails. I warn you, you may never go back to a regular margarita after this!
